An annual survey of charitable giving found that the number of people giving overall had failed to show any real growth, with fewer than 60 per cent of the public giving to charity.

A paper examined the relationship between income and donations to charity. A negative correlation between income and percentage given to charity was found among donors - even when a variety of other factors were controlled, including a wide range of demographic characteristics and personal explanations of giving behaviour, and donating to different charitable sub-sectors.

A report said that young people who had taken part in charity activities at school were more likely to see themselves as long-term givers of time and money and to have an increased level of commitment to future charitable behaviour.
